- In-game description:
Ascending will reset all the progress a Reincarnation would reset. It will not reset your Reincarnation count, and then will revert back to the Reincarnate button for Reincarnation 41 with new requisites. By Ascending you will unlock a new main currency, Diamond Coins, that will be used for post-ascension upgrades and features, resulting in much smaller numbers. All upgrades that previously cost Gold Coins will be free, and the formulas for subsequent Reincarnations will change to allow continued progress. All Gifts bonuses, Scry Rewards, Ruby bonuses, Event bonuses and Gem bonuses will NOT be affected by the Ascension reduction.
Ascension is a special soft-reset that happens at R39, R99, R159, and R219, where the usual Reincarnation button is replaced with an Ascension button. It was implemented (in v1.6.48) to overcome an issue related to the storage of very big numbers and all the values were shifted to a smaller range to enable the game to progress further.
Ascension[]
Ascending will unlock a new currency, Diamond Coins, that will be used for post-ascension upgrades and features. Early upgrades, faction and research upgrades will be free to a certain point. Buildings and excavations will instead cost Diamond coins.
WARNING! It is imperative to ascend before reaching 18.96 Ocqag (1.896E148) gems or 179.7 Uc (1.797E308) gold. If you go above, your game will start to bug. (source)

---|
The relation between gold and gems scales the same at 0.5 – 1 million x coins = 1,000x gems.
Therefore, it's a 50.8% percent increase post-ascension[1].
A shift is applied to every aspect of the game: production, assistant, mana etc., resulting in the need to reconsider tactics, and rebuild new Mercenary and research builds. See Values for ascension upgrades by artcrow |

Note: While Ascension can initially render many unlock requirements harder to meet at R40 than they were at R39, some trophies and challenges have lowered requirements post-Ascension to prevent this from impeding progress. Other metrics (like maximum excavations to be used for obtaining artifacts, or maximum buildings to obtain the building trophies) can be expected to drop temporarily but surpass their pre-Ascension levels fairly quickly thanks to powerful post-Ascension bonuses becoming available.
The two notable exceptions to this, which constitute an advisable "Ascension Checklist", are the Secret Trophies 'No Recruiting' and 'Stoic Resistance'. These retain their pre-Ascension gem requirements to unlock and will thus be significantly delayed if sought post-Ascension.
Ascension 2[]
At R99 the Reincarnation button will again change to Ascension. Things will be reduced as it was with Ascension 1.
- When performing Ascension 2, all Lineages will be set back to level 25 if higher.
- Most production upgrades effects will be heavily scaled down. Currency will change to Emerald Coins, and all upgrades previously costing Diamond Coins will be free to purchase.
- 3 new Alignments called Leges will become available, each working with the existing Alignments, with 1 new spell for each and 9 new Unique Buildings (for 2 Unique Buildings with each Faction).
Ascension 2 will also allow spells to reach Tier 7.
