The builds on this page all require Research and revolve around using it to boost production or reach specific goals. Keep in mind that these builds are liable to change as the game evolves.
Regrettably, these builds haven't been updated in a long time, and have ignored numerous patches worth of updates that have rendered most of the below builds either obsolete or unoptimized. While they can be updated, it would simply be faster to remove all the builds here and start from scratch due to the amount of builds and changes that would need to be tested. Please go to G00fball's Not-a-wiki for a more updated list of research builds, including mercenary research builds.
Players are encouraged to have all the research points and slots their reincarnation levels permits. R16 players, to have all 135 RPs unlocked, and min 10 Dvg (1E70) gems.

Alternative upgrades: Many builds include alternative upgrades, and hence include more than you can take. If an upgrade is locked for you, so long as it is not marked as important, you can ignore it and pick the next one on the line.
Templates: Template codes can be found at the bottom of each build collapsible table.
Plain numbers are somewhat advised (or to use up any spare RU points.)
Unique / Non-Unique (U / NU): The build aims to boost, or not, the production of the unique building. Unique builds, or more or less unique, some can be 50/50, may not always be specified.
Research Builds R16 - R29+[]
As a general Rule: All builds were tested without Sun Force, if not stated otherwise. All builds had access to all relevant trophies, challenges and artifacts. Only the fastest build for each bracket made it into this, but every combination that looked useful (and even some others) was tested.
All of the builds up to R24 are Rush builds with under 15 min run time, so if you aren't doing so already, spend your offline or idle time as Druid (5 days of Druid time will make your life much easier in R25+, because it will unlock the strongest research available to you)
Vanilla Flavor Juice is mandatory.
Focus on getting VFJ , Sunforce and other easy Lore artifacts with excavs (Up to R19: After getting the RPs with them)
After you unlock E290, make sure to do a last excav run with it prior to reincarnating[1]
R16-18[]
Early game buffs enable you to start researches at 1 Dvg (1E69) gems, which eliminates the need for frustrating LF runs. If RWS shows a lot of blacksmiths coming up, going to e70/e71 with LF is recommended. Also recommended, starting as fairies and using fairies + excavs to unlock RPs up to 80s first. If you can play during the useful sunforce time do so as it will help quite a lot, but it is still doable without.
Unlocking all relevant researches should get you up to ~50 Dvg (5E70) (tested with and without Sun Force), this will be used as a starting point for the build to finish the R.
All builds (Elf/Elf, several Demon variants, Fairies) were used and tested until they hit 15min because of VFJ, Fairies proved to be the best.
Notes Swap C330 with C135 if C135 is 200% or higher.
Swap E135 with E290 for maximizing excavations.
tried on 5/22/2020: this build is wrong, it does not utilize Ancient Device and uses upgrades that are not usable for titan faction.(corrected on 8/14/2020?)
Prestige Research builds for the Dwarf and Drow factions. May require up to 590 RPs, and additional slots from the archaeology upgradesHorn of the Kings for Dwarf, and Flame of Bondelnar for Drow.
U Dwarf-Angel R29-39
Range: R29-39, e99
Requirements:
Run time: medium/long-term build. Also viable for short runs at early prestige reincarnations.
Auto-cast Bronze: God's Hand. Dwarven Pickaxe (if S460). Holy Light (if W225) Silver:Spiritual Surge, Call to Arms Gold: Dwarven Pickaxe (no S460). Holy Light (no W225), Taxcollection
Instructions Strong build that focuses on boosting Heaven's Domain through a balance between mana regen and independently strong multipliers. Only relies on one or two direct mana regen upgrades along with Druid Heritage synergies. - Build created by Jahws with collaboration
If you can't afford all researches use one of the templates of previous Rs.
Horn of the Kings upgrades include: C105,C200,C520,D400,D480
Alternates:
S200, S135 - consider your run's intended length in relation to 460's growth time. The breakeven point is probably around 3 hours in; use 460 if the run should go longer than 3 hours.
C105: Short term use replaces C400.
E290: Max excavation (replaces E200)
A330, A545: Alternatives to A400, although you should stick with A400 if the upgrade bonuses are close (as the extra bloodstream effect will pull it over the top)
W330: Consider your run's intended length in relation to 225's growing time. The breakeven point is probably around 3 hours in, as with S460. If going longer, use 225; if shorter, consider W330 instead.
Max excavation:
C200 or C500 instead of C105
E290 instead of E200
This build is best powered by maximizing your Excavations before hand. Fortunately, it's also quite useful for maxing those excavations with some small tweaks.
While this build includes upgrades not accessible in early Prestige research, it still works perfectly well for R29 players. In replacement of the 400+RP upgrades, check the alternates, or those designated for the Horn of the Kings slots.

U Dwarf-Angel R34+ Template with A400 W225: After import, choose for the Horn of the Kings: C105,C200,C520, D400,D480;
Build name is "Citadel Elves" (for brevity.) Citadels are the primary production building and Miracle target. Rush build for short to medium length runs (2 hours or less but can be run longer.) Good for unlocking C460 with a long run.
Range: to ~e138 (1 QiQag) gems

Underlined upgrades are for longer runs:
Less than 30 minutes: Titan bloodline. Take alternate upgrades instead of underlined upgrades - D50 and D290 instead of D55 and D435.
30 minutes – 2.5 hours: Titan or Druid bloodline. Use D55 and D435 but no other underlined upgrades.
2.5 – 4 hours: Druid bloodline. Base build with S460 instead of S200.
4+ hours (and C460 unlock): Druid bloodline. Base build with all bold upgrades: A150, W560, S460 instead of A495, W330, S200. Dwarf-Angels will outproduce this build in runs over 4 hours. When unlocking C460, leave a slot open for C460 to maximize production at the end of the run.
Locked upgrades: If S500 is locked use Titan bloodline (use S215 or S460 as appropriate for run length.) If C460 or C590 are locked, C500, C340, and C520 can be used as alternates, C400 would be next if another upgrade is needed.
No Horn: If using D50 drop C105 first. Drop C135 then C225. Drop C120 third if not using D50.
Instant miracle technique: Build only Citadels and wait for a fresh miracle to target citadels before buying all buildings and casting combos. You can autocast to buildup clicks and spells for a bit as miracle will target only citadels when no other buildings have been built. Use upgrades for "less than 30 minutes"

S200: Set the arrow to cover the full combo. Around 6000-7000 mana should keep S200 high. With no S500 set the arrow near maximum.
Strong rush build (length: a few minutes) that focuses on boosting Enchanted Fields. Might also be used as a medium length build once it slows down.
Range: works until ~1 Tqag gems (~1E132 gems) (probably even longer once D480 is unlocked)
R33 players: choose lower alternative upgrades.

Instructions
Get Factions Coins from Excavation as long as you can afford it. Excavate until you have ~500M - 1B Factions coins for each run. (Don't forget to use E290 for Excavations.)
Production: SS, DP, FC, HL, CA so silver, TC on gold
Note: With the Horn of Kings purchased, Dwairy builds focusing on Dwarven Forge will produce at a noticeably better rate than with Enchanted Fields.[citation needed]

Check your percentage of D480, it can be very powerful, for me D480 >20000% now.

D480 is only for very early runs where time is closer together. Most runs will have very low D480 values.
Check the effect of E135 instead of E320. The additional Enchanted Fields and Dwarven Forges work much better for me.
S305 is also worth giving a try (mine gives whooping 131903%...and no, not a typo and not influenced by any "offline buff" research)
Alternates: Swap S500 with S400 if higher. Swap E460 with E30 if Run if 12 hours run or more.
Notes Requires 6 hours to unlock SS2. Also used for stage 4 unlock at e31 (10 No) gems (requires using S400 with at least 14k bonus, estimated run time 10 hours)
Notes Do it when you get around 15~20 No gems (2e31). Call to Arms 3 can be easily rush in the firsts minutes, rush Spiritual Surge 2 after that and leave the game for less then 12h and it will be complete. Note that Tax Collection gives about 2 Billion FC when using along with Fairy Chanting, so set both to Efficient Autocasting (Brown), priority to fairy chanting. It will help get SS2 faster.
Notes Requires using S400 with at least 14k bonus. This bonus is easily gotten overnight using gobilns and the research that casts tax collections on any spell casts.
Instructions Time together Lightning Strike on Deep Mine and Green Breath for maximal production. Use only if DC3 is not unlocked yet, as Druidline Faceless is faster.
Notes Excavate until Dwarf Lineage level 10 is gotten, which allows to get Undead Lineage to level 10 easily via Ancient Heirloom (Which will be almost certainly gotten on or before getting to this build). No point going further as it is of little benefit.
Notes Takes estimated 12 hours for mana requirement. The hardest requirement is the 125k building requirement.
Requires free excavations to excavate Spiritual Surge 6 and Dragon's Breath 5. Grand Balance tiers or amount of target is irrelevant for this build.
Instructions Set all spells, that cost at most 2500 mana (and Temporal Flux) on bronze, TC on silver (contingency 90%), get to SS3 and tier 6 on the rest, get to max mana and cast all spells.

Author Notes:
After 10h I had 8k max mana, 1500 mana/s, over 2M spells cast and a TC only costs 20 mana. It also earns craploads of FC for when you want to spend your Research Points.
Over time you will increase mana regen through time, FCs, spells cast, buying REs and increasing your building count, and some interactions between those variables.
Editors Notes:
After number crunching... the most E145 will give in this build is 240% increase and the break even point with E1 is merely 2,246 buildings. E1 is clearly a better choice.
Note to editor: TC adds to the offline time of any thing that utilizes offline time. E145 effectively double this result. Note fast offline time only works when you are also Drow.
Turning off Avarice Drive and Overflowing Mana in the challeges tab will slightly increase spells cast as well by lowering spell duration
Optional, U Angel, good alignment mana build to optimize S400 and W200 at the same time. Build based on the 10b mana quest post (including conclusion upgrades) - Suggestions and ameliorations are welcome.

NU Druid build for things based on Mana produced, like Primal Balance. It works better, if you prepare a powerful S400 bonus by running Goblin Super-Dooper Spells Cast build. Also, a longer run of this build can help get 1000 assistants.

Main upgrades, used for getting max possible mana regen, based on getting max mana over time. Goblin's Bloodline + E135 is very nice combo for increasing max mana. "Bold" upgrades required for mana regen/max mana/assistants. So, with 5000 max mana from prepared S400 i had 3200 mps on beginning. After 1h i had 3400 mps. Regen scaling down, but after several days, increasing will be stable.

For Titanline use S215 instead of S500 (or S460 for longer runs – S460 passes S215 roughly around 20 minutes autocasting both Hellfire blast and Combo Strike).
W590 is likely better than W400 as W590 grows quickly and W400 may be 2000-3000% (I don’t know the actual value and that guess could be quite wrong.) (-benjiboy87 I did the math, W400 is about 9600% in this build when Demon 3,2 is giving 150 out of 400 assistants after bonus)
You may buy W400, W330, and W180 (or W520) after acquiring the flame.
U Goblin build for Spell Trophies. Can reach Archwizard's 1 Billion spell casts in 10-15 days. Mana regen increases roughly 3k/day, until it reaches maximum mana. - by Deworx - source* Requirement: 590 RPs
Post Ascension : Requires around ~1e25 gems.
Notation: Bold are direct mana regeneration/assistant sources, whereas underlined ones help with FC gain and therefore are indirect mana regeneration sources. The remaining 7 are just the best production upgrades for vacant spots.
Important: Don’t affiliate with Drow before getting 5200 (650*8) Goblin Banks. With Dwarf Challenge 5 (All buildings count 20% more for all purposes.), you can reach 10 free TC casts per spell cast (S50) with 5417 Goblin Banks, or 9 free TC casts per spell cast with 4875 Goblin Banks.
Note: Dwarf Challenge 5 required, Drow Challenge 4 recommended combined with C250 and C305. Getting the Colorful Autocasting and Prismatic Mana achievements are highly recommended if using this build Post Ascension.

Build Submissions[]
Please first post them in the Kongregate forum so they can be tested and possibly be ameliorated. Then you can post the build with the link to the post showing readers it has been tested.
Many builds on this page have been created collaboratively: they have been discussed and tested in the Kongregate forums. They are flexible and could be further tweaked to better fit your personal game progress. But if ever you do decide to swap a suggested upgrade, don't forget to check further than the indicated benefit. Check that it isn't directly or indirectly indispensable to an other upgrade.
Consider Offline Production as value (A55+S305). Many of the older builds were created before they got boosted.
R16-R40@Premium upgrade players: These builds do not consider C340 - DIY. The most often prey you could replace is C135.
Common Buildups - If things seem slow, consider doing some building-up:
D55 - Relies on spell casts this game. Autocast TC alone until it reaches min 1000%. D55 builds up nicely and is used in nearly every build!
C135 - Relies on total clicks. Autocast the Elf spell with Sun Blessing. Since v2, you can also gain clicks while offline.
Faceless Heritage - is based on the highest amount of buildings owned in a single game. Try doing a Fairy run using Goblin bloodline and all the available cost reduction upgrades.
